AT‐rich DNA sequences are highly polymorphic and are very abundant in noncoding regions of the genome. We have determined the molecular structure of the coiled coil obtained from d(CGATATATATAT) by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. This oligodeoxynucleotide forms continuous duplexes through its sticky ends. The A ⋅ T base pairs are in the Hoogsteen conformation.
