Proteins under wraps. The multiple site‐specific binding of Fis (Factor for inversion stimulation) to DNA has been investigated by scanning force microscopy. Up to three Fis proteins bind to DNA in the region of the nuo promoter (see figure). Wrapping of the DNA around the protein complexes can be inferred from the compaction of the DNA.
