Encoded assembly : Hairpin metallosalen–DNA was assembled from two salicylaldehyde‐modified, complementary oligonucleotides by DNA template‐directed synthesis. Assembly reactions in the absence of divalent metal ions produced a new class of metal‐free salen–DNA hairpin constructs. Metallosalen–DNA hairpin conjugates demonstrated high B‐form duplex stability, which may facilitate structural studies of metallosalen–DNA conjugates.
