Attempts are reported to incorporate sulfonate and perchlorate anions as ligands in zinc complexes of tripodal ligands. Using tris(benzimidazolylmethyl)amine (BIMA) only the aqua complexes [ (BIMA)Zn‐OH 2 ](RSO 3 )(ClO 4 ) and [(BIMA)Zn‐OH 2 ](RSO 3 ) 2 (RCH 3 , CF 3 , p ‐tolyl) were accessible. Using substituted pyrazolylborates (Tp*), the same three sulfonate anions were found to be ligands in the complexes Tp*Zn‐OSO 2 R. Spectroscopic evidence for perchlorate coordination in Tp*ZnClO 4 · 2 DMSO conflicts with crystallograpic evidence against it in Tp*ZnClO 4 · pyridine. The crystal structures of [(BIMA)Zn‐OH 2 ](CH 3 SO 3 ) 2 , Tp Cum,Me Zn‐OS0 2 CH 3 , TP t Bu,Me Zn‐OSO 2 C 6 H 4 ‐ p ‐CH 3 , and [Tp Cum,Me Zn · NC 5 H 5 ]ClO 4 were determined.
