Reaction of (4R,5S)‐1,5‐dimethyl‐4‐phenyl‐3‐propanoylimidazolidin‐2‐one with aromatic aldehydes leads to aldol products which, after one recrystallisation have d. e. s > 99%. Removal of the chiral auxiliary affords optically pure β‐hydroxy esters.
