2‐Chloro‐4,5‐dihydroimidazole ( 1 ) reacts with 4‐(dimethylamino)pyridine to yield the stable pyridinium salt 2 , which on treatment with some C — H acids produces 1,2,3,5‐tetrahydroimidazo[1,2‐α]pyrimidines 6 .
