Abstract Introduction of fluorine into 4‐chlorobenzyl chloromethyl sulfide ( 7 ) by crown‐ether‐assisted nucleophilic substitution furnishes 4‐chlorobenzyl fluoromethyl sulfide ( 5 ), a key intermediate for the preparation of fluoromethanesulfonyl chloride ( 1 ).
