Contributions to the Chemistry of Halogenosilane Adducts, 21. — Preparation, Properties, Crystal and Molecular Structure of Dichloro(1,10‐phenanthroline)bis(trichlorosilyl)silicon, (SiCl 3 ) 2 SiCl 2 · phen Si 3 Cl 8 · phen ( 1 ) is obtained as a stable solid by the reaction of Si 3 Cl 8 with phen. The structure of 1 in solution and its reactions correspond to that of Si 3 Cl 8 · bipy reported earlier ( 1 H‐NMR and IR studies). Rearrangement of 1 occurs in solution to give bis(silyl)‐substituted 1,2‐dihydrophenanthroline. From THF/C 6 H 6 solution crystalline Si 3 Cl 8 · phen · C 6 H 6 ( 1a ) is obtained. The X‐ray structure determination shows 1a to be monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / n (Z = 4). Phenanthroline is coordinated to the central silicon atom of the trisilane with its plane normal to the linear Si 3 chain having two tetrahedral terminal SiCl 3 groups. The coordination octahedron is regular.
