1,2,3,4‐Pentatetraene‐1,5‐dithione ( 4 ) can be prepared by 254‐nm photolysis or by flash pyrolysis of the precursors 3 and 5 . The IR spectrum of matrix‐isolated 4 (argon, 12 K) as well as its 13 C‐NMR and UV/VIS spectra are reported. The calculated electron excitation energies of C 3 S 2 and C 3 S 2 ( 4 ) are in accordance with the experiment.
