Starting with carbinol 3 [easily accessible from ethyl ( S )‐lactate], the synthesis of enantiomerically pure, C 2 ‐symmetric ketone 8 is achieved; the key step involves the diastereoselective addition of dilithium compound 4 to benzaldehyde.
