The pentafluorosulfanylacetic acid, HOOCCH 2 SF 5 , is dehydrated to the ketene OCCHSF 5 . Besides other more typical reactions this ketene isomerizes to the alkylidenesulfur tetrafluoride OFCCHSF 4 which is hydrolyzed to the title compound OFCCHSF 2 O. This first alkylidenesulfur difluoride oxide exists in three, possibly four different isomeric structures at low temperatures, as was determined by NMR techniques. This is a result of hindered rotation of the CS and CC bonds.
