Arene(Phosphane)metal complexes, XIV. — Synthesis of η 5 ‐Cyclohexadienyl‐ and η 4 ‐Cyclohexa‐1,3‐diene Osmium Complexes from [C 6 H 6 Osl(PR 3 ) 2 ]PF 6 The reaction of [C 6 H 6 OsI(PR 3 ) 2 ]PF 6 ( 1,4 ) with NaBH 4 in ethanol leads almost quantitatively to the formation of the η 5 ‐cyclohexadienyl complexes (η 5 ‐C 6 H 7 OsI(PR 3 ) 2 ( 5: R = Me; 6 : R = Ph). Reduction of 5 with Na in THF gives the highly reactive [(η 5 ‐C 6 H 7 )Os(PMe 3 ) 2 ]‐ anion which reacts with NH 4 PF 6 in the presence of iodide to produce the compounds (η 5 ‐C 6 H 7 OsH(PMe 3 ) 2 ( 8 ) and (η 4 ‐C 6 H 8 )OsHI(PMe 3 ) 2 ( 9 ).
