A Facile Synthesis of S 2 N 2 The reaction of S 4 N 4 with S 2 N 2 · 2 AlCl 3 ( 1 ) at 80° C in high vacuum results in the formation of S 2 N 2 . The advantage of this method in comparison to the direct pyrolysis of S 4 N 4 at 300°C is the reduction of temperature to 80°C. On safety arguments, S 2 N 2 has now become available on a preparative scale. The spectra of S 2 N 2 · 2 AlCl 3 are discussed.
