Rearrangement of 1‐phenyl‐β‐lactams by aluminium chloride catalysis The attempted synthesis of 1 by intramolecular alkylation failed. Treatment of the β‐lactams 3 and 6 with aluminium chloride yields the dihydroquinolinones 7 and 8 .
