Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes, XLIII: Reduction of a Metal‐Carbon Triple Bond Reaction of [π‐C 5 H 5 (CO) 2 ReCC 6 H 5 ] + [BCl 4 ] − with Et 2 AlH yields — depending on reaction conditions — the novel secondary carbene complex π‐C 5 H 5 (CO) 2 ReCHC 6 H 5 ( 2 ) or the σ‐benzylhydrido complex π‐C 5 H 5 (CO) 2 HReCH 2 C 6 H 5 ( 3 ). The reaction is the first example of a stepwise reduction of a metal‐carbon triple bond to a single bond.
