Phenoxazines, XI. Note about the Transformation of 3‐Nitrophenoxazine to 3‐Phenoxazone 3‐Phenoxazone ( 6 ) is formed in up to 42% yield by simple decomposition of 3‐nitrophenoxazine ( 1 ) on daylight in benzene solution. 7‐Nitro‐3‐phenoxazone ( 7 ) was isolated as a minor product (11 – 17%). Hydrolysis of the imino compound 3 could not be achieved.
