Über 1.3.7‐Trimethyl‐hypoxanthiniumsalze ( 4 ) wird 2‐Thio‐coffein ( 2 ) erstmalig erhalten. Die in der Literatur als 2‐Thio‐coffein angesprochene Verbindung ist 5‐Oxo‐7‐methylimino‐1.4‐dimethyl‐1.4.5.7‐tetrahydro‐imidazo[4.5 d ][1.3]thiazin ( 3 ), also ein „1‐Thia‐coffein” ‐Derivat.
