Phthalisoanil (III) lagert Stickstoffwasserstoffsäure unter Ringöffnung zum 1‐Phenyl‐5‐[ o ‐carboxy‐phenyl]‐tetrazol (IV) an. Letzteres liefert bei der Thermolyse unter Wiederabspaltung von HN 3 als Hauptprodukt N ‐Phenyl‐phthalimid (VI), daneben 3‐Phenyl‐2.4‐dioxo‐tetrahydrochinazolin (VII) und elementaren Stickstoff.
