A novel approach to the application of flowsheet simulators in higher education is presented. In the Process Simulation Cup (PSC), a process flowsheet with one valid solution for a specific practice‐oriented problem is given. Within the framework of this contest, students can submit better solutions for the described problem. In this review, the two already completed PSC2015 and PSC2016 as well as the current PSC2017 are presented. Student participation, educational benefits, and further scientific utilization of the results are evaluated.
