The paper presents the main research needs in the fields of logistics assets, control and design processes and employees that have to be addressed in order to make the benefits of modularization available to the process industry. It should be noted that the research program described below does not claim to be complete. Conversations with supply chain and logistics managers in the process industry have confirmed the importance of research tasks mentioned. Other topics (e.g., in terms of business models and IT integration) can be added as needed.
