Attorney Nancy Hogshead‐Makar combines her athletics and legal backgrounds to be a ferocious advocate for equal access to sports opportunities for girls and women. Forty years ago, Hogshead‐Makar was the first woman to receive an athletics scholarship in swimming at Duke University. The winner of three gold medals and one silver medal in swimming at the 1984 Olympics, she spent 12 years as a tenured professor of law teaching both torts and sports law courses, including Gender Equity in Athletics, at the Florida Coastal School of Law.
