In contrast to years ago, when sports injuries infrequently led to lawsuits against an institution, today's sports world has become more litigious. This has led to an increase in the filing of claims and lawsuits over sports injuries sustained in practices and competitions. Because of this trend, college athletics departments need to gain a better understanding of the issues that tend to arise in these cases so they can reshape or refine how they prevent and manage sports injuries.
