ORLANDO, FLA. — Overlooking the importance of extending compliance education to the family and friends of student‐athletes could leave your athletics department at significant risk of compliance violations. Consistent, ongoing interaction with student‐athletes’ family and friends can help, according to Justin Kume, Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at The Ohio State University. “You're going to have to put the time in. Relationships don't just happen in the click of a button or sending an email,” he explained at the annual convention for the National Association for Athletics Compliance along with Jayson Santos, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at Baylor University.
