Tom McMillen's life experiences have certainly given him a unique perspective on the world of college sports. The most recruited high school student‐athlete of his era, McMillen played basketball at the University of Maryland, was selected as a Rhodes scholar, and went on to earn his M.A. from Oxford University before playing 11 years in the NBA. From there, he served three terms in the U.S. Congress, co‐sponsoring the Student Right‐to‐Know Act. A founding member of the Knight Foundation's Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, McMillen became president and CEO of the LEAD1 Association in 2015.
