When student‐athletes discover they can no longer practice or compete due to medical disqualifications or cuts from the team, they tend to struggle with discouragement, loneliness, depression, anxiety, disconnection, and isolation. They're likely to encounter academic challenges and a lack of support. Although some former student‐athletes appreciate suddenly having time to explore other interests, many don't know how to fill all that unexpected, unfamiliar free time.
