ATLANTA — When transgender student‐athletes take hormones, their participation in college sports is clearly regulated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. A transgender male undergoing testosterone treatment may no longer compete on a women's team, but may try out for a men's team. A transgender female receiving testosterone‐suppression treatment and/or undergoing surgery can continue to compete on a men's team but can't compete on a women's team unless it's changed to a mixed team. After completing one year of hormone suppression, a transgender female may try out for a women's team.
