Programming and services within athletics departments are established to resolve issues such as retention and degree completion. These challenges are historically more prevalent in special populations (first‐generation, transfer, international, etc.), but remain unidentified in a college athletics department. Moreover, collaboration efforts across campus don't always provide sufficient support for student‐athletes, who are often overlooked. To implement successful initiatives, it's imperative to make deliberate efforts to understand why student‐athletes chose your school.
