The relationship between college sports and the law continues to evolve. Whereas in the past, it was rare to encounter an objection to student‐athletes being pushed to their physical or mental limits in practices, that's no longer the case. During the last few years, lawsuits have emerged in which student‐athletes bring negligence claims against institutions, coaches, administrators, trainers, and medical personnel. They allege they suffered injuries as a result of being pushed too hard by coaching staff, not receiving the appropriate level of athletic training attention and medical treatment, and being coerced to continue to practice and participate in competitions despite their injuries.
