Although the world of coaching contracts has traditionally focused on head coaches, recent cases suggest that schools should pay close attention to their contracts with assistant coaches. As the competition for high‐quality assistant coaches who can have an immediate and positive impact grows each year and their corresponding compensation packages rise, the need for specificity in contractual language and enhanced protection for the school also increases. This is particularly true in situations involving assistant coaches who have moved from annual appointments to multiyear contracts.
