There appears to be an emerging trend of lawsuits arising out of injuries to college student‐athletes in practice sessions and competitions. The targets of the lawsuits range from other student‐athletes to coaches, trainers, teams, and universities. Although these types of cases have emerged from time to time in the past, the current wave of concussion‐related litigation and significant monetary settlements provide an interesting backdrop to their recent growth.
