Police departments across the nation face challenges when it comes to achieving a diverse workforce. At the same time, research often points to the many benefits of diversity, from better community relationships to more successful recruiting efforts. And while campus police departments might have some recruiting advantages in this regard — universities are, after all, incredibly diverse environments — the challenges remain. Overcoming the many roadblocks to diversity requires a comprehensive approach and a willingness to embrace change.
