In recent years, some communities have seen a deterioration of the relationship between police officers and the citizens they serve. Responding to this problem, former President Barack Obama assembled a team of experts to identify practical solutions. The President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing listed “Building Trust and Legitimacy” and “Community Policing and Crime Reduction” as two of the six pillars outlined in its final report. While the focus of the task force was on municipal policing, the campus environment offers many of the same challenges and opportunities.
