The New York Police Department edited photographs used in its facial recognition software technology, according to a new report from the Georgetown Center on Privacy and Technology. The report, which includes case studies and documented incidences where the NYPD abused its facial recognition surveillance software privileges, comes amid blowback from municipalities over the technology. For example, San Francisco recently passed legislation that bans police use of the technology.
