Approximately 10 percent of students reported misusing pain medications and sedatives, according to a study. The 2018 College Prescription Drug Study surveyed undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on their use of prescription drugs for nonprescription uses. The survey was administered to approximately 114,000 students at random during 2018 and received responses from 19,539 students at 26 different institutions. The majority of students hailed from four‐year public institutions, but students also responded from four‐year private institutions and from one two‐year public institution.
