My last column ( see Dec. 2018 issue ) began addressing three questions related to the Clery Act. First, has the original spirit of the Clery Act given way to ambiguous and oft‐changing reporting requirements? Next, is the data itself being used in a meaningful way? Lastly, are the civil fines that result from violations of reporting deviations and noncompliance helpful in dissuading others or changing the behaviors of other institutes of higher education?
