Even after Paul Cooper retired from his position as the city of Claremont's police chief in 2016, he wasn't done with law enforcement. “I still enjoy law enforcement and the opportunity to make a difference and impact people's lives, so I stayed on as a volunteer reserve police officer with the Claremont Police Department and continue working as a reserve,” Cooper said. But in 2018, Cooper was hired as the assistant police chief at the University of California, Irvine.
