Unfortunately, it seems as though almost every day we hear about another shooting or violent incident on and around college, university, and public school campuses. Some people have dubbed this the “new normal.” Others have countered and questioned the classification by which we consider what is and what is not a “school shooting.” The definition of an “active shooter” incident also creates debate. Those of us actively practicing in the law enforcement and security arena know the official Federal Bureau of Investigation definitions and the generally accepted notion of what constitutes each; others, however, may not necessarily understand.
