When Hampton Cantrell became chief of the Department of Public Safety at Loyola Marymount University in 2008, he brought a wealth of practical experience with him. Cantrell started his career in law enforcement as a police officer in the Compton Police Department and then served with the Inglewood Police Department for 24 years. He left the force after nine years as a captain to take the position at LMU.
