I am certain that in the last few weeks (and likely again by the time this column is published) many of you, like me, have received inquiries, concerns, and other, what I will call “renewed interests,” in light of recent shooting incidents within and around institutes of higher education. The listservs are heating up. The blogs are being updated fast and furiously. Twitter and Facebook are ablaze with news articles, op‐ed pieces and the like. Questions about best practices for securing classrooms, decisions to shelter in place, mass notification systems, and the litany of actions and responsibilities of public safety professionals are being, shall we say, re‐examined .
