The impact of opioid addiction has widespread economic and social costs, which has prompted a number of public agencies to challenge drug manufacturers and distributors for their role. Recently, the State of Oklahoma sued Purdue Pharma, which resulted in a settlement of $270 million, much of which, according to various media reports, will go to Oklahoma State University. Louisiana State University's board of supervisors recently paved the way for LSU to join a Louisiana opioid lawsuit.
