Trends in recent Clery Act audits provide institutions with a roadmap for the biggest Clery potholes institutions can avoid. The U.S. Department of Education's continued focus on Clery is undisputed. In January 2019, ED raised the fine per Clery violation to $57,317. And fines have increased by more than $22,000 per violation in approximately the past three years, making it the largest three‐year increase since the law's 1990 inception.
