With rising rates of obesity among postsecondary students, students with high body mass indices increasingly ask schools to accommodate their needs by providing classroom, housing, and educational accommodations ranging from special furniture to very large horses in equestrian programs. Although as a matter of course many institutions accommodate these students, their underlying assumption that morbid obesity is a disability within the meaning of Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act appears to be incorrect.
