This article presents, in a simple manner, a mathematical basis of finite difference method and describes a sample computer program to support the teaching of electromagnetic fields in an undergraduate course. The program is used to demonstrate the flux contours of magnetic fields inside the cores with different configurations. This can help students in their first contact with electromagnetic field analysis problems and in power system elements, and can also help them develop their required software experience based on our procedure.
