FROM THE EDITOR : This new department in our CAE journal was created to help inform our readers of the ongoing activities in the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation. The services, announcements, and grant awards of this division are vital to engineering education and are certainly crucial to sustaining faculty commitment to and interest in new developments in undergraduate education. I am delighted to introduce Dr. Norman L. Fortenberry, who kindly agreed to edit the “What's DUE” department. As you may have noticed, DUE stands for Division of Undergraduate Education. Dr. Fortenberry is a program director in this division and, unlike others who tend to be visiting scientists on one‐ or two‐year assignments, he is a permanent staff member in this division. Dr. Fortenberry has worked hard to make it possible to work with us on creating this new “What's DUE” department; on behalf of our Editorial Board and the publication staff from John Wiley & Sons, we welcome him most warmly and pledge to work hard with him to make the publication of his department timely and informative.
