Coulomb's Law and Poisson's equation are revisited and compared as algorithms for computer evaluation of electric force fields. In the course of this examination we point to the danger of applying physical laws measured in three‐dimensional space to spaces of other dimensionalities. The algorithms based on Coulomb's Law and on Poisson's equation are cast in C‐language and are illustrated with a two‐dimensional example.
