The problem‐solving functions addressed by author‐written software for a number of mechanical and aerospace engineering courses are described. Typical input and output are described or shown. It was found to be necessary to explain program results to students as well as how to enter data for a new problem solution. Other faculty teaching the course were generally reluctant to learn specific educational software, preferring to let students do this on their own.
