This article describes progress on the development of a new engineering course for freshman students. During the course, students work on a series of projects aimed at illustrating various aspects of the design cycle. To aid in the design, students are encouraged to experiment with personal computers equipped with multimedia, computer‐aided design software, and data acquisition hardware.
