This paper introduces a new tool to approach the effects of a diffraction grating and its interaction with other optical and electronic components in a light wavelength analysis system. The model's theoretical background is described. This model is intended for educational purposes and it is referred to a miniaturized spectrophotometer. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
