A nonlinear lumped parameter transient model of single‐row finned‐tube liquid‐to‐gas cross‐flow heat exchanger is examined numerically. The dimensionless liquid, metal, and gas outlet temperatures are examined for different dimensionless conductance and capacitance ratios. This article also describes a useful tool that can be used to enhance students' capability to analyze thermodynamic systems with heat exchangers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
