The mylohyoid is a muscular diaphragm in the floor of the oral cavity. Its superficial and deep surfaces have important anatomical relationships. The submandibular gland is uniquely related to both surfaces at the posterior free edge of the muslce. It is here that the submandibular and sublingual tissue spaces become continuous. This case report describes an unusual range of anatomical variations of the mylohyoid muscle and reviews their clinical significance. Clin. Anat. 14:285–287, 2001. © 2001 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
